Radiohead video is pretty sweet

14 07 2008

The video for “House of Cards” relatively long in the works is finally up, and its pretty damn cool.  The video uses no cameras whatsoever, only a technology that maps geometric shapes called Geometric Informatics.

“Geometric Informatics scanning systems produce structured light to capture 3D images at close proximity, while a Velodyne Lidar system that uses multiple lasers is used to capture large environments such as landscapes. In this video, 64 lasers rotating and shooting in a 360 degree radius 900 times per minute produced all the exterior scenes.”

Pretty cool stuff.  There is some fan component, though I don’t see how fans can make a video like this.  But it’s all on this google video page. Be sure to play with the data by clicking on the picture at the bottom, its pretty fun.

Fairly Good Music on Rock Band 2

14 07 2008

Highlights of the new Rock Band include:

Beastie Boys – So Whatcha Want, Beck – E-Pro, Bob Dylan – Tangled Up in Blue, Dinosaur Jr. – Feel the Pain,  Elvis Costello – Pump it Up, Interpol – PDA, Modest Mouse – Float On, Rage Against the Machine – Testify, The Replacements – Alex Chilton, Silversun Pickups – Lazy Eye, Sonic Youth – Teenage Riot, Talking Heads – Psycho Killer, The Who – Pinball Wizard, as well as a NEW Guns N’ Roses song.  How the Replacements, Dinosaur Jr., and Sonic Youth were chosen is beyond me, but good job! (or will this be the downfall of alternative music? you decide).
